Elaine Smith
Elaine emigrated to Canada from Oxford, England where she lived all of her adult life. Her professional background is in legal education and training. In January 2010, she began working at Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, as a Partial Load Professor in Law. She has worked as an academic lawyer for many years developing educational and training programs in law, business and management.
Coupled with her professional work, Elaine had an active involvement in volunteer work, which was largely due to the desire to give back to her community. Elaine’s role as vice-chair for a Board of Trustees taught her the importance of identifying the cause and affect of people enduring extreme hardships. She has also been proud to be involved with Mulberry Bush School Limited, a therapeutic residential facility for children with behavioural problems caused through severe abuse.
After living in Caledon for almost a year Elaine had this burning desire to continue volunteer work and be among like-minded individuals. She feels extremely fortunate to have come aboard the CCS Board of Directors and since June 2009, feels welcomed and honoured to be working with such a worthwhile charitable organization.
Elaine’s hobbies include a re-ignited passion for playing tennis by joining one of the local clubs in Bolton. After four years of not playing, she can still hit the ball and even play long rallies. She still wants to improve her backhand and volleying. Elaine is also an avid reader, walker, and fan of the arts, especially opera.
